MEET THE SONORA DIVING TEAM

Daniel Gastelum
Diving Instructor and Founder of Sonora Diving
Daniel Gastélum is passionate about the sea and a pioneer of diving in Sonora. Originally from Hermosillo, he began diving in 2009 with the intention of documenting Sonora’s underwater world for his television program, Outdoor Sonora, and the magazine of the same name, both projects that became benchmarks for adventure tourism in the state.
His love for the ocean and sharing his passion led him to become a professional diving instructor in 2018, the year he earned his PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor certification. Since then, he has been recognized seven consecutive times with the PADI Elite Instructor distinction, thanks to his commitment to teaching and safety in diving.
He is currently a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer and holds specializations in technical diving, sidemount diving, and adaptive diving for people with disabilities (certified by the Handicapped Scuba Association). He is also a PADI IDC Staff Instructor, which allows him to train new instructors.
Since 2018, Daniel has organized the “PADI Women in Diving” event in Sonora, becoming the first to bring this international event to the state, with the goal of promoting women’s participation in diving.
In addition to teaching courses at all levels at his school, Sonora Diving, Daniel shares his experiences and knowledge through social media and digital platforms, promoting diving as a way to connect with nature and sustainable tourism in Sonora.
